My Beliefs

I want to start by giving you an idea of where I am coming from.  That is why the first post on Solutions is entitled "My Beliefs".  So please bare with me.

It is my belief that the individual is sovereign.  Meaning that the individual holds his own power of self government seperate of other idividuals power of self government.  I believe this sovereignty is granted to the individual by God.  To maintain this soveriegnty the individual is granted rights by God.  As it is said in our Decleration of Independence, "among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

With that being said the first thing, we should realize is that our system of government is not and was never intended to be a true democracy.  Democracy in it's truest form is simple majority rule.  Although this reflects the will of the majority of people, it tramples the rights and sovereignty of the minority and thus the individual.  Instead we are a constitutional republic.  This means that we are a nation ruled by law and not by man.  Our constitution is the highest law of the land, and thusly the ruling law of the land.  The purpose of our constitution is to protect the rights of the individual, thus protecting his sovereignty.  This form of government protects us from the tyranny of an individual, or small group, and the tyranny of the majority.  The constitution lists numbered specific powers of our federal government.  Through the 10th amendment it allows all other powers that are not granted to our federal government and not excluded from the states or individuals to be held by the states or the individual.

I believe that America is the, as former President Reagan put it, last great hope for freedom on this earth.  Despite the thousands of years that most other societies have had to get it right there are no other people on the face of this planet that is as free as we.  Europe has embraced socialism and is now forced to implement harsh measures to sure up it's economy.  This has resulted in riots in France, Spain, and Greece just to name a few.  There are multiple human rights issues in most of Asia, and the middle east has seemed to embrace the hardline view of  Islamic extemists.  Although we are not as free as we were, we are still the most free people in the world.

I believe in American Exceptionalism.  We are not genetically superior, or different than other peoples, but we are more free, and that is where our exceptionalism stems.  Because of this freedom we have attracted people to our land from all over the world, and they, because of this freedom have also become exceptional.

Our prosperity is directly attributed to our freedom and the principles of our free market system.  In 237 years we have become and maintained ourselves as the world economic leader.  Again other societies have had thousands of years to achieve this.  This can only be explained through our free market system and it's natural relationship with individual property rights.  An individual working within the free market system can enjoy the fruits of his or her own labor.  This results in improvement in effeciency and the development of goods and services through innovation, thus creating the most efficient and productive economy the world has ever seen.

The intent of Solutions is to bring a positive and articulate message to the people.  It is also the intent that people should come together at  the table of ideas, and seek out through prudence and wisdom, the solutions of our day.  Debate and reason are the two best tools to encourage this result.  Through reasonable debate we can educate each other in both our differences and our aggreements. It is my hope that Solutions reaches many people and that they engage in the debate.  It is not the intent of Solutions to call out any people of disagreeing opinions.  You now know where my beliefs stem from.  It is my hope that I will also know yours.

Finally, my ulimate goal is to create a workable solution that we can present to our elected leaders that will have the blessings of the will of the people.
